Donna Shortt Pastel Workshop

November 6th,  9:00 am. - 3:00 pm.   Cost:  $60.00

Donna Shortt is a life-long Indiana resident and self taught in the use of oils, watercolors, pastels and acrylics. She is now concentrating on perfecting her skills in the pastel and oil painting mediums.  She enjoys painting plein air landscapes and light-filled still life sets in her studio. She is part of a group that meets weekly for life drawing as it is her continuing desire to improve her drawing and painting skills.  Recent accomplishments include a Purchase Award from the Indiana State Museum in 2008 and a Best of Show in the fine arts professional division at the Indiana State Fair in 2007. She was also part of a pastel exhibit at the Richmond Art Museum in 2008.

She is a member of the Hoosier Salon, Indiana Artists Club, Indiana Heritage Arts, the Southside Art League and Indiana Plein Air Painters.

Artists Statement:  My Inspiration to paint starts with the light at early morning or late afternoon and I would happily spend the rest of my time here capturing it. Color is just as important which is why pastels are my favorite medium. I feel that each painting is not a destination but a journey and my goal is to share this with others.

Basics of pastel will be covered with demonstration, lecture, and hands on work time.  Ms. Shortt will demonstrate different pastel surfaces and how to do still-life and landscapes in pastel.Pre-registration required. All fees due at time of registration.  Maximum of 12 students.  Go to www.dshortt.com for examples of this award winning artist's work.

Hard pastels (Such as Nu-pastel.)
Soft pastels (Rembrandt pastels are labeled as soft but I consider them hard.)

Suggestion:  If you need to purchase pastels, get with a friend and buy a box together.  Then, break them in half to share the expense.  As a rule, the more expensive the pastels are, the more pure pigment they have.
